Un-be-lievable! If it makes you feel any better - wonder what the car that hit it looks like? I guess Thomas should just encase the entire mailbox in concrete, maybe that would do it!
Funny thing though: no car pieces or any other evidence of what might have hit it. I thought maybe it might have been done by someone with a bat, but Thomas says the way the post splintered, it would have seriously hurt someone that tried to hit it while driving. The actual box is seriously about 5 feet from the post, so I guess he is right about the strength of the impact.

A trade off cheaper houses vs more mailboxes must be purchased ... well, I guess you can have this issue in a more populated area too.

Who knows.....*sigh*
So, what are your plans for it now?
Set the post 3 feet off the road, attach the mailbox to the end of a long arm, and build it so the arm can swing 270-deg when hit.
